What’s Responsible Vendor Training? Two Things To Know Before Selecting Your RVT Program.

Unpopular opinion, but we love that the state of MA requires cannabis agents to take mandatory training throughout the year. A requirement of 8 documented hours per registered agent, with 4 of those hours dedicated to Responsible Vendor Training(RVT).

What is Responsible Vendor Training?

Responsible Vendor Training is a mandated course by the Cannabis Control Commission, which takes agents through a required curriculum of:

  • Product education

  • Health & Safety

  • Identification practices

  • Compliance

  • Inclusion in Cannabis

In our previous lives, our team at Grass Ceiling were registered agents, and also tasked to find the best RVT program for our MSO to utilize. At the time, there were limited options to choose from, and none which offered industry insight into day to day compliance.

We’ve set out to change the narrative with our own accredited RVT platform and unleash it into the cannabis community.

We’ve compiled a few of our recommendations when selecting a platform, and why you should consider our program as a top choice (call us biased).

How Can Responsible Vendor Training Improve Your Establishment’s Compliance Operations -

Most RVT platforms available provide curriculum requirements that will ensure agents are educated on basic cannabis regulations across the state. And most will provide this education in a lecture format.

That’s fine and dandy, but from our experience, a great training program will build on skill retention by catering to various learning styles.

We feel strongly in training cannabis agents through various modalities, such as;

  • Workbooks to follow along with the material (Kinesthetic and visual learners love this!)

  • Lectures with closed captioning (Auditory and visual learners, we’ve got you!)

  • Interactive Case Studies from actual industry experiences (Hands-on learners, we see you!)

  • Practice Assessments to ensure learning retention

When agents train through these methods, the end result will look something like this;

  • Awareness, understanding and respect for day to day compliance

  • Firm knowledge on how compliance impacts a license and the consequences

  • Less non-compliant operational errors

    • Which in turn means - less indecent reporting and less surprise inspections by the CCC.

How Responsible Vendor Training Can Impact Your Establishment’s Revenue Goals -

We are of the opinion that any training program should create, maintain, and foster a culture of growth, connection, and in turn, creates an atmosphere of thoughtful care for customers.

It should also provide tangible results in the form of revenue dollars!

How?

  • Training builds confidence in your team member’s selling habits, which increases your business metrics.

  • Great training programs build on a growth mindset, which ensures agents welcome change and set them up for success when regulations shift. This results in agents who are adaptable, and eager to assist your customers through cannabis challenges.

  • Training programs create a culture of growth and development. Simply put, it creates happy employees. Happy employees = happy customers and a happy net promoter score.

What Makes Grass Ceilings Responsible Vendor Training Different?

As agents ourselves, we felt unprepared to handle the daily challenges of cannabis and we were disappointed with the training programs on the market.

We thoughtfully added our industry knowledge into creating a program which would set agents up for success and ensure establishments were covered when it came to compliance.

Throughout the course, agents will have the opportunity to learn from common industry mistakes (we’ve seen firsthand), and how to solve them in a compliant, customer focused manner.

And wait, there’s more!

Having a background in retail, we feel a major missed opportunity in cannabis is basic customer care training. We have a major hurdle in cannabis to break down stigmas and change the narrative of cannabis use. Educating on empathy, active listening, and tailored consultations is the best way to provide genuine customer care.

With our RVT- Basic Core Curriculum, agents will have access to a bonus module, solely focused on how to provide amazing service aptitude within cannabis.
